The Warm-Up Phase
Our courses for beginners usually start with a warm-up phase, during which learners first train their ears to the new language. When we learned our native language, we also listened first before we started speaking ourselves.
In GaLaLea courses, however, this phase is not so long. It can be completed in one to two weeks. Ideally, this takes place before the course.
There is an audio recording by native speakers, along with the text translated into the learner’s native language (or a bridge language such as English). The text is also decoded into the native language (or a bridge language such as English). You can find out more about this below.
For individual learners, there is also the option of using a booster during the warm-up phase: the ISONO device. Without actively studying, learners can “hear” the new language through their skin and attune their whole body to the sound and intonation of the language. This eight-week preparation makes conscious language learning much easier.
Pronunciation Training
The next important step is pronunciation training. Now that the ear can hear the language correctly, the mouth and vocal cords are trained to form the sounds of the new language correctly.
To do this, the learner must be able to watch the trainer’s mouth. And it often takes tips from learning guides who speak the learners’ native language and have themselves learned to speak the new language with almost no accent.
As part of our group courses, we usually offer an extra lesson once a week for this purpose. However, there are also videos that learners can watch on their own.
Of course, pronunciation training can also take place in individual coaching sessions or in the other course lessons.
Decoding the Texts
Already during the warm-up phase and parallel to pronunciation training, learners can begin to discover the new language using, for example, the text of the audio for listening practice, but also with a conventional textbook.
We have specially prepared the text of the audio so that you can use it to learn vocabulary and make your first discoveries about grammar.
We use two types of decoding for this:
Word-for-word decoding helps you learn vocabulary effectively. Currently, there is decoding in English, Spanish, Chinese, and Turkish for German as a foreign language. When working with a bridge language, there is always room for entries in your own native language.
The color-code for word types or grammatical elements allows you to recognize the first structures of grammar at a glance.
Sentence Structures and Grammar
The core of our courses is the card game, which is used to learn and practice sentence structure and basic grammar rules in a playful way.
There is also a set of vocabulary cards, which are used in simple exercises during the warm-up phase and now bring the card game to life.
These two elements of our concept are currently only available for the following languages:

– Japanese (by Dr. Monika Lubitz)
Exams according the the European Reference Frame and other exams for asian languages
Each of our courses in European languages German, English, and Spanish can be classified according to the European Framework of Reference for Languages from levels A1 to B2. We also offer separate exam preparation courses.
Our Japanese courses can be used to prepare for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) at levels N5 to N3. For N2 and N1, we strongly recommend a longer stay in Japan.
